NOTICE TO ALL DELEGATES AND ALTERNATES TO THE MADISON COUNTY CONVENTION

 The County Convention, originally scheduled for March 21, has been postponed to a future date to be determined. Please keep the materials that have been previously sent to you, in case they are usable when the convention is rescheduled.  For updates, please check your email and the Madison County Democrats website www.madcoiadems.org.

See below for a statement from Iowa Democratic Party Chair, Mark Smith:

“After extensive consultation with County Chairs, the State Central Committee, party leaders, and public health officials, we have come to the determination that the spreading coronavirus poses a risk that outweighs a temporary delay in moving the caucus-to-convention process forward.

This is not an easy decision, but we believe it is the right decision.  By their design, caucuses are gatherings built around a sense of community, and throughout every step, we have worked to ensure the process is safe and accessible for every Iowan.  However, Iowa Democrats should not have to choose between democratic participation and remaining in good health, and concerns for the well-being of our delegates, thousands of volunteers, workers at convention venues, and the public come first.

It is in the Democratic spirit that we will work together to find solutions.  We are committed to being as transparent as possible going forward, and rest assured: Iowa will be heard at the DNC Contention”.

At of this time District and State Convention planning will proceed as scheduled. 

Update re: Food Donations for County Convention

Thank you to those who had signed up to donate ingredients for the County Convention meal on March 21st. Please consider those plans to be canceled. Since we don’t know what day or time the county convention will be convened, we may or may not have a meal. So we will start from scratch when a new date and time are selected and ask for donations again if a meal is planned.

There is no change to our regularly scheduled monthly meeting at this time.

The March meeting of the Madison County Democrats Central Committee will be held Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 pm in the back room at the Sports Page restaurant in Winterset. We will begin gathering at 5:30 pm to eat, for whoever is interested in joining. The minutes of the February meeting have been sent directly to the elected members of the Central Committee (elected at the caucus) in a separate email. Others are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings!
