Sign, sign, everywhere a sign…

Sample 4′ x 4′ sign made by Elizabeth Hoenig. Way to go!

I don’t know if it’s possible to win the turf war for yard signs in Madison County, and I know the issue of their effectiveness is debatable, but I’m glad to see we already have a greater sign presence for the coming election than we ever did in 2016. It sends a message that there’s more than one game in town, and lets us know we’re not alone!

Yard signs do cost money, though, especially those really big ones. Grassroots campaigns like ours can’t afford them. So, we have devised a plan for making our own large signs in support of our candidates, and all are invited to participate! “Signapalooza” will be held this Saturday, August 25th, from 9:00 to 4:00 at Robert Bell’s building located at 1843 Warren Ave. in Bevington. Come when you can and stay as long as you like. Supplies will be provided, but they do need to know how much plywood to buy for the signs. If you know you would like one for your property, whether you can attend or not, please send us a message at madcoiadems@gmail.com to let us know how many and for which candidate(s). The cost is $20 for a 4′ x 4′ sign (pictured at left) or $35 for a 4′ x 8′ sign (for reimbursement of materials only).

Jim & Pat Nelson have the most complete collection of Democratic yard signs I’ve seen to date!

With just 76 days to the election, now is the time to get engaged and/or stay engaged! Your presence at these events really does matter. This Thursday night, August 23rd, we have a Madison County Democrats meeting at the Pizza Ranch restaurant at 6:30 pm. Regardless of whether you’ve never been to one or haven’t been to one recently, we welcome you with open arms. We have some important work to do between now and November 6th, and we need all hands on deck.

Of course you already know and support Vicky Brenner. She’s done such a great job of getting out there and meeting people that it might feel to us like the work is done, and she’s got this in the bag. On the contrary, NOW is the time when she needs to know we are there to support her and do everything we can to help her win. That’s why it’s important to go to her events (as well as those for Ryan, Alan, Jana, and Cindy Axne) in these last couple of months, such as the Together With Brenner BBQ coming up this Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Judge Lewis House Bed & Breakfast in Winterset.

You’re thinking, “Wait — are they asking me to go to a committee meeting on Thursday, a sign-making party on Saturday, and a barbecue on Sunday?” Yes. Yes we are.

And here’s a little musical inspiration for you, my liberal friends. Crank it.
